Healthy Living Workers United Wins Union Election
We’re thrilled to announce that we have won our union election and will soon begin the process of collectively bargaining our first union contract. Thank you to everyone who participated and made their voice heard. This outcome reflects the strength of our collective effort!
We also want to clear up any confusion: this election included all three Healthy Living locations, and a majority of workers across all three stores who voted, voted in favor of unionizing.
The final vote count was 105–69 in favor of unionizing, meaning that 60% of voters voted in favor of the union. This margin is large enough that the 29 challenged ballots could not change the outcome. Of these challenged ballots, 18 were challenged by Healthy Living (which argued that these votes should not be counted due to pending resignations), and 11 were challenged by the union (on the basis that these positions are professional employees and could’ve been a different bargaining unit). Regardless of the challenged ballots, the result remains the same: a clear majority voted in favor of unionizing. As a result, workers at all three locations will be represented by our union!
In the coming week, the organizing committee will begin sharing bargaining surveys and start the process of democratically electing a bargaining committee. We hope everyone will take part as we work together to make Healthy Living the best workplace it can be. No matter how you voted, your voice matters, and we encourage everyone to get involved in this next phase! Solidarity!
